# Update Contact Subscription

> Subscribe or unsubscribe contacts from email and/or SMS communications.

## Description

Updates the subscription status for one or more contacts, controlling whether they receive email and/or SMS communications. Contacts can be identified by email address or phone number.

## Parameters

| `accountNumber` | integer | Yes | — | Child location ID — ask the user to provide this directly |
| `permission` | string | Yes | — | Subscription action: `"both-subscribed"`, `"both-unsubscribed"`, `"sms-subscribed"`, or `"email-subscribed"` |
| `email` | list\[string] | Conditional | — | List of email addresses to update — required if `phone` is not provided |
| `phone` | list\[string] | Conditional | — | List of phone numbers to update — required if `email` is not provided |

## Example Usage

```
Unsubscribe jane@example.com from all communications at location 78901.
```

Subscribe 555-0100 and 555-0200 to SMS messages only.
```

## Notes

* `accountNumber` is the child location ID — ask the user to provide it directly rather than looking it up automatically.
* At least one of `email` or `phone` must be provided to identify the contacts.
* Use `"both-subscribed"` to opt contacts in to both email and SMS, or `"both-unsubscribed"` to opt them out of all communications.
